ABOUT THE TD WELCOME TO CANADA PROGRAM:

Telelatino Network Inc. (Telelatino), Canada’s leading multicultural media company and home of TLN Television and the Spanish-language Univision Canada channel, has secured TD Bank Group (TD) as the title sponsor of its Welcome to Canada Literacy Program

The TD Welcome to Canada literacy program will distribute 1,300 books to selected schools, community centers, and libraries across the country making them available to young newcomers, particularly those of Hispanic descent. The books will help foster an understanding of Canada, including language, geography, history and multiculturalism.

The program reflects Telelatino’s commitment to sharing and showcasing the vibrant Latino culture and to connecting Spanish-speaking Canadians with the passions that make their culture unique – from food to music, drama to sport.

Salsa at Blue Mountain
When: June 18

The TD Welcome to Canada program joins Salsa at Blue Mountain with a special story time for young children during the hours of 11am and 4pm at the TD Welcome to Canada Children’s area. A newly constructed park opens during the Salsa at Blue Mountain weekend and is situated along the boardwalk between The Westin Trillium Hotel, new Mill Pond Playground and the Blue Mountain Village Events Plaza.

TD Salsa on St. Clair
When: July 9 and 10

The TD Welcome to Canada program joins the “TD Salsa on St. Clair” free weekend event, part of the TD Salsa in Toronto Festival for a special two day celebration. Young children will be able to enjoy some reading time and celebrate the multiculturalism that makes Canada so great at Canada’s Biggest Latino themed dance, music and culture festival on Saturday July 9th and Sunday July 10th.

TD Summer Reading Club

When: June 15 to June 25

The TD Welcome to Canada program will continue to help inspire reading all summer long as it integrates with the TD Summer Reading Club. Select public libraries with a high concentration of Hispanics will receive books to help foster an understanding of Canada, including language, geography, history and multiculturalism. Young children of Hispanic background will be able to discover even more about their new country and have fun reading at participating local public libraries.

TD Grade One Book Giveaway
When: Sept/Oct 2016

The TD Welcome to Canada program integrates with the TD Grade One Book Giveaway, the largest free-book distribution program to school-aged children in Canada. The TD Grade One Book giveaway provides all English and French Grade One students with a free copy of a Canadian children’s book, compliments of TD, which they can keep to take home and read with their parents and caregivers. This fall, more than 500,000 Grade One children nation-wide will take home Small Saul written and illustrated by Ashley Spires and published by Kids Can Press. In addition, the magic of books and reading will continue this year as select schools with a high concentration of Hispanic children will receive books from the TD Welcome to Canada program to help foster a richer understanding of Canada.
