TLN's Play-by-Play Announcer Antonio Giorgi is a recent import from Tuscany full of European gusto with a love for Canada. Antonio is a true soccer fanatic with encyclopedic international football knowledge (English language interviews available upon request). TLN's EURO 2012 play by play originates directly from TLN's Toronto broadcast headquarters where Antonio "calls ‘em as he feels ‘em".
Alf DeBlasis, another TLN stalwart and well known soccer guru known as "the expert the soccer experts call on" is also in high demand this month. Alf is providing EURO 2012 feature pieces in Italian on TLN as well as English language colour commentary on local radio.
Antonio Giorgi & Alf DeBlasis were joined by special color commentator Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Deputy Mayor of Oshawa. Tito-Dante is a proud Italian Canadian who was exposed to TLN Telelatino at a young age as his family watched the networks’ always exciting soccer coverage. He was ecstatic to showcase his love of Italian culture and the game of soccer by commentating on today’s matches with Antonio who called goals Euro-Latino style.
The Deputy Mayor went on to tell TLN he comes from a “large Italian community in Oshawa that celebrate these national tournaments with TLN coverage. ” His soccer knowledge has grown with his many travels to Italy including an extensive stay while studying at the University of Bologna. Some of his fondest soccer memories include the ups and downs of the Italian soccer team while watching with his family.
In 2003, Tito-Dante was first elected as City and Region Councilor as well as Chair of Strategic Initiatives. He was the first ever Oshawa Deputy Mayor of ethnic/Italian decent and at the age of 24 was the youngest deputy mayor in history. In 2006, during his first term in office, Tito-Dante was able to move the motion that was successfully passed marking June 25th Gattuso Day during Italian Heritage month in the City of Oshawa.
