TLN’S MILESTONE CONTRIBUTION BECOMES A REALITY WITH THE LAUNCH OF GALLERIA ITALIA

In celebration of it’s upcoming 25th anniversary in 2009 TLN recently launched the “Making a Better Canada,” year long campaign to celebrate and showcase the profound impact ethnic immigrant individuals, families and communities make to our country.
In support of Canadian cultural expression, TLN alongside 25 Italian Canadian visionaries joined forces with one common goal and made an unprecedented $13 000 000 milestone contribution to the transformation AGO campaign. In acknowledgement of this significant contribution to the Gallery and the leadership of the Italian-Canadian community, the AGO has named its sculpture promenade Galleria Italia.
When Canadians think of Italy they think of good food, high fashion and great art. The launch of Galleria Italia at the AGO honours both the contributions Italians have made to art history and the contributions Italian Canadians have made to this city and country.
“TLN has been a longtime supporter of the arts and social causes in our community”, states TLN President Aldo Di Felice. “City building and celebrating artistic expression is at the heart of many of our activities. However, to bring all together such a prominent group of Italian Canadian families to support one bold project is really exciting.”
The following donors have each contributed $500,000 to Transformation AGO:

Designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the signature space spans a full city block from McCaul to Beverly streets. This light-filled space will house sculpture from the Gallery’s
permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Framed by curving glass and Douglas fir, this elegant space powerfully connects the AGO to the city. You can feel the excitement mounting as the structure of the new Art Gallery of Ontario takes shape - its breathtaking facade of wood and glass stretching along Dundas Street West, drawing you in and holding out the promise of great things to come.
